Joovy Caboose Stand On Tandem Stroller, Appletree

We have a 3 year old and a 4 month old and this stroller suits us well. My daughter is very tall for 3 and her feet drag on the ground in most strollers so this is perfect for her. I like that I can buckle her in when I need to and she likes the option to stand giving her a little more freedom than in the past. After pushing around a Graco Duo-Glider that I borrowed from our sister in-law this thing seems so light! Other tandems are very long making them hard to steer, this one has a shorter footprint so it is a lot easier to manuever. My son is large too and outgrew his infant carseat very early so the front seat does need to be reclined for him due to his age. This does not give my daughter a ton of room when she is sitting but he’ll be able to sit in the upright position soon enough. I think it is great for getting the older child from the car to the store w/o having to worry about traffic in busy parking lots. It’s a lot more convenient than bring a HUGE double stroller everywhere for a 3 year old who might want to ride and might not. It should be useful for a lot longer than a traditional double stroller for anyone with kids spaced a couple of years apart.

Yesterday I logged on the to the Babies R Us site to write a five star review for the Caboose Stroller. We absolutly love this stroller. I was shocked to see the recent one star reveiews that have been posted in the last few weeks. So I took the reviewers advice and visited the local Target. Here is what I found:
1. From Handle to tray front the Caboose is 11 inches shorter. The shorter wheelbase makes for much easier steering.
2. The Caboose has a higher handle height for the parent. It also has the same deluxe foam handles that the $800 Bugaboo has. The child handles have the same deluxe foam. The infant carseat attachment is even covered in the deluxe foam.
3. One reviewer mentioned that the Caboose is square tubing and not all accessories fit, but square tubing is far stronger than round or oval tubing. It also looks cool. The frame is very rigid and strong.
4. When folded the Caboose is half as tall 12 inches, the other one is 24 inches. The caboose tray and canopy nest perfectly when folded. The Baby Trend is 28 inches tall when folded if the canopy is left on. The Baby Trend tray also slams into the floor when the stroller is folded. The Caboose has a metal folding lock, the Baby Trend has a plastic one.
5. The Caboose canopy is much bigger and has canopy locks on each side.
6. The harness buckles on the Caboose are deluxe with light reflective straps. This is a good comparison of the quality of the strollers. The Caboose has a light reflective harness that has at least 3X more light reflective materail. The Baby Trend harnesses are very difficult to operate and can pinch. Research other Baby Trend product reviews and you will see this problem is already documented. The five point harness on the Caboose has two shoulder height positions. One of the positions is completely above the seat back height of the Baby Trend stroller. That is the reason that it appears that there is more room on the Baby Trend rear seat. The Baby Trend front seat back is so low there is no head support for the front child.
7. I checked the warranties on both products. The Caboose has a lifetime and the Baby Trend 180 days.
8. The parent tray on the Baby Trend I looked at was already broken. The push button on the side of the tray that releases it to rotate had fallen out and the tray could not be locked in place.
9. The Caboose infant car seat attachment is compatable with many more car seats. It will take the Chicco, Britax, Compass, Graco, Evenflo and Peg seats. The Baby Trend will not accept many of the new carseats on the market.
10. The fabric on the Caboose is rip-stop 600D nylon. This is the same fabric back packs and luggage use for it’s durability. The Baby Trend is a light weight poly/cotton.
If you really look close there is really no comparison of the quality of these two products. The Caboose is a better engineered product and each important component is better quality than the Baby Trend. As I walked out of the Target with my Caboose the lady working in the juvenile department asked me where I got my cool stroller.

I had a similiar stroller “sit n stand” for my oldest two children which were 3 yrs apart and absolutely loved it even though it was more costly than this one and much heavier. Ten years later I have a 2 year old and expecting this spring. I have spent many hours online and in stores searching for a decent double stroller that is not heavy, hard to steer or bulky when folded to no avail. Then I found this! Even though I don’t have the baby yet…..it folds up smaller than my single stoller and steers much smoother so I am extemely happy using it with only one child. With the holiday shopping I use the back section to carry packages and my toddler is content in the front, or if he gets bored I swap out positions with the packages. I know without a doubt I will love it even more when the baby comes.
The only “problem” if you can even call it that is there is no cup holder or tray for parent. I never have used the tray on my old travel system and a cheap $5 attached cup holder did the job for me!

I have a 2 & 1/2 year old and a newborn (1 month) and this stroller is perfect for us. In doing our research on double strollers I knew we wouldn’t be able to purchase a traditional double stroller, mainly because my car trunk is too small. I have a convertible. What I love about this stroller is it fits our infant carrier (Graco Snug Ride) safely and securely. It is also fairly light and fits nicely in my compact trunk. It moves smoothly, almost like a jogging stroller. And I can also get it in & out of my car quickly. My toddler loves it. The areas of improvement this stroller needs is having the bench seat lock into place so it doesn’t slides as your strolling. This is my greatest grievance with this stroller. Also it would be nice if this stroller came with the convenient accessories we’ve become use to with our other strollers, such as a cup holder, tray, clock & etc. Lastly, with the basket it is a little irritating that you have to move the toddler to get to it. But what I’ve been doing when the item is small enough is putting the items in the basket from the side.
Suggestion to the manufactuer: 1. Allow the bench seat to lock in place while strolling. 2. Allow for side access to the storage basket so it is quicker and more convenient for the parent and toddler. 3. Add a small tray for the parent, to increase convenience we’ve grown accustomed to with other strollers.
Overall, thus far we are all happy and satisfied with this stroller. Good job joovy!

Eight years ago, when our oldest was 5 and our second-born was 1, we bought the original Sit and Stand Deluxe. At the time, we thought the world of it — the baby could sit up or recline in the front, while our kindergartner could stand and see everything as we strolled, and could sit when he grew tired.
We now have a 3 year old with a baby due in two months, and we knew we would need another double-style stroller (our original Sit and Stand was garage-sale fodder years ago). At Babies R Us I immediately headed to the Stand On Tandem Stroller, remembering how well this worked for our oldest two. We learned very quickly that it does NOT work for an active toddler/preschooler. Among the problems:
1. The front seat does not fully recline; it only partially reclines. The baby would have to be able to sit comfortably before being able to use the stroller.
2. The adapter that supposedly accepts all infant car seats did not accept either the Evenflo infant seat or the Graco SnugRide infant seat that we tried at the store. The sales associate also could not get the SnugRide to lock onto the stroller.
3. When the front seat is in the reclined position, the back of the seat takes up all the room in the rear where the older child would be sitting.
4. When the front seat is in the reclined position, it is virtually impossible to access the storage basket beneath the seat.
5. When an older child is seated, the storage basket is inaccessible.
6. If your older child is tired, there is nowhere for him or her to sit comfortably or supported — just the narrow little bench.
7. With our 3 year old seated on the bench and nothing in the front where a baby would sit, this stroller did not steer very easily. With our 3 year old seated in the front, this stroller still did not steer very easily.
8. The standing platform with handgrips does work well, but let’s face it. Two to three year olds get tired or bored of being in the same position very quickly, and then they either have to sit on the bench (provided the front seat is not reclined) or they have to be carried or they must walk. We tried to convince our 3 year old to go for a ride standing up, and he lasted all of 3 minutes before he started fidgeting and letting go of the handholds, creating a safety issue. The standing platform should work well for a preschooler/older child, but forget it for the 2- to 3-year-old set.
9. A minor detail, but there is no storage stray or cupholder for the parent.
Yes, it is very lightweight and folds compactly when compared to other double strollers, but the negatives far outweigh the positives. We went with the Graco Duoglider instead, and strongly recommend to any parents considering this stroller that they go to a Babies R Us store and actually try it out before purchasing it.
